Online ad network Traffic Marketplace has acquired Rocklin’s Livemarkets for an undisclosed sum. Livemarkets provides a technology that gives banner ads click-to-chat features and allows consumers to have a real time chat with a salesperson.

LiveMarkets launches in-ad chat

Rocklin based LiveMarkets launched their in-advertising chat service this week at ad:tech in San Francisco.

The service places a real time chat window directly on the screen when a user clicks an ad, allowing companies to provide one-on-one conversations with prospective companies.

VentureBeat reports that at ad:tech, LiveMarkets was approached by four venture capital firms, six advertising networks, several ad agencies, and two requests to build a private label version of the service.

VentureBeat also speculates that this is a market Google may attempt to enter to compliment their click-to-call services. I would also expect that existing in-page IM services like Mabber and Meebo could replicate much of the functions.

The back end of the service is able to route chats to a call center of agents who can answer questions. Companies might also find this useful for customer support.
